Quang Phu Cau – Nam Dinh – Lan Ha Bay > 5 days

Note that this special tour passing by Nam Dinh and Lan Ha bay can be extended to include other wonderful places as Pu Luong Nature Reserve and the Halong Bay on land, Ninh Binh.

Take a new route by discovering Vietnamese handicrafts. First by the village of incense then to the exciting province of Nam Dinh and its many villages of artisans. End with a magnificent 3-day cruise in Lan Ha Bay, the least touristy of Halong Bays. 

The first stop is not far from Hanoi, just 45 minutes to visit the Incense Village. Entering the village, the delicate scents of incense begin to smell to your delight and the first stalls appear along the road. Once arrived at the workshop, the explosion of colors of the incense sticks are a marvelous and bewitching spectacle. Then, the road resumes for the province of Nam Dinh, stronghold of Vietnamese craftsmanship with its some 70 villages of craftsmen (fish sauce, trumpet, water puppets, silk glass…). The lunch experience in the “clam pavilion” overlooking the water is unique. Finally, a traditional junk cruise in Lan Ha Bay will complete this superb stay in the best way.

  • Day 1 > Hanoi – Quang Phu Cau – Hai Hau
  • Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi and departure for Quang Phu Cau, the incense village, in the suburbs of Hanoi. You will visit a clothing workshop and will be able to appreciate this firework of colors emanating from the sticks. You will take the road again towards the province of Nam Dinh and more particularly the village of Hai Hau . Arrived at the guest house for a welcome drink and a snack. Then departure by bike to visit the market and the pagoda of Luong. Then head to the village of Pham Phao with its superb church. The village is known for its trumpet making workshops that you will discover. On the way, you will see many other churches and pagodas and stop at the house of Mr. Nguyen Cuong. Return to the hostel for a herbal foot bath, dinner and peaceful night.
  • Day 2 > Hai Hau
  • duong-lam_smallWake up to admire the sunrise and watch the village seafood market. Return to the guest house for breakfast and depart for the village of Sa Chau fish sauce, particularly famous since it was the one used by kings and nobles. Then head to Xuan Thuy National Park. This park has an extremely diverse mangrove ecosystem with rare mangrove and bird species. The main asset of this park is being able to have lunch in the “clam pavilion”. You can experience clam fishing in the area around the lodge or in the Ngan and Lu dune areas of the national park. Lunch of fresh seafood in the lodge and free time. In the afternoon, visit the “ Rach Water Puppet Village ” – or the long-known Nam Chan Puppet Hall. Here you discover the history of the creation and development of the profession of water puppet makers in this region, understanding all the steps to make them from the work of scissors, assembly, painting and decoration. Then, head to the Co Le pagoda, with its unique architecture. It is a perfect combination between the architecture of Buddhism and Christianity. Buildings such as the Nine-story Flowering Tower and the Big Rose are the hallmarks of the history of the establishment and development of this temple. Dinner and night in the homestay for a tasting of local specialties.
  • Day 3 >Hai Hau – Lan Ha Bay
  • tam-coc_smallAfter breakfast, depart for Halong pier. You will be welcomed and transferred to the traditional junk for three days of navigation in less touristy places. Arrive at Cat Ba Island, you will be welcomed by the junk team. After a delicious welcome lunch, you will be directed to Ben Beo Pier . After a short introduction, you will board a traditional junk and sail in style around the unique floating villages, home to many families. You will kayak through the beautiful landscapes of the bay and if the tide allows you can paddle directly into Dark Cave and Bat Cave. Dinner and overnight on board.
  • Day 4 > Lan ha Bay
  • After breakfast, you will sail to the lagoon and the cave of the three tunnels for even more kayaking, you will sail more and more incredible and spectacular landscapes. Have lunch on Trois Pêches Island, famous for its crystal clear waters and natural beaches. Dinner and quiet evening on the junk, lulled by the flow and the sound of the waves.
  • Day 5 >Lan Ha Bay – Hanoi
  • After breakfast, you will discover the beautiful landscape of Cat Ba Island while pedaling towards the national park and the village of Viet Hai, a fishing village only accessible by hiking through the national park or by boat. When you arrive you will have the option to stroll around and enjoy village life or take a two hour hike through the beautiful national park for great views scenic and photography opportunities of Ha Long Bay. Back at the pontoon, you will be directed to the Ben Beo bridge to join the ferry and then the car to Hanoi. Mid-afternoon, return to the center of Hanoi and end of the tour.
