A gentle journey to explore the beauties of North Vietnam. From the famous rice terraces of Mu Cang Chai to the Tu Le valley and the high mountains of Lai Chau in 5 days. The landscapes have the only common point: their beauty. You will also discover the habits and customs of different minorities in the North. 5 intense and unforgettable days.

First with a dip in the spiritual and the historical in the pagoda of Thay dating from the 11th century. Birthplace of water puppet shows with its small isolated pagoda in the middle of the lake. Then climb step by step to reach the peaks of North Vietnam. Very gently at first when you reach the town of Tu Le, an inevitable stop before taking the photographers’ route where the endless terraces of rice fields begin to catch your eye!

Then stop at Mu Cang Chai or more precisely at La Pan Tan, just as pretty and much less touristy. Other perspectives on the espalier rice fields will be offered to you. Then departure for the Far North, near the Chinese border in the province of Lai Chau and more precisely in the district of Tam Duong. Inhabited by the Dao with flat hats, you will share and exchange with them in the sublime village of Si Thau Chai. This hilltop village offers a wonderful view on the mountains and the whole valley.

  • Day 5 > Si Thau Chai – Ban Tham - Lao Cai – Hanoi
  • Day 1 > Hanoi – Thay Pagoda – Tu Le
  • Pick up from your hotel in Hanoi and drive to Thay Pagoda . After climbing some 250 steps, you will visit the main buildings. Invisible from the village, a marvelous pagoda dating from the 11th century appears. The visit continues to discover the "cave of hell". Imposing cave where erosion has created rocks in the shape of animals. At the bottom of the cave, there is an old scythe used during the war. Back in the village, visit the pagoda by the lake with its old buildings. You will take the road again towards Suoi Giang , the village with ancient tea trees. Lunch will be taken en route at a local restaurant. Arrived at the village, you will visit the village and the tea fields in this locality inhabited by the H'mongs . Tea tasting before heading back to Tu Le. Arrival at the end of the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay with the locals.

  • duong-lam_smallThe day will be dedicated to visiting this charming town not yet impacted by mass tourism. You will start with a bike ride in the valley to experience the peaceful atmosphere there. You will go to the local market to buy the ingredients that will be used to make lunch. Back at the homestay , you will be invited to join the hosts to prepare lunch together, which you will then share. In the afternoon, you will hike in the mountains to a Hmong village to discover the local life there. You can devote yourself to working in the fields with them in order to experience daily life there (activities depending on the season). Visit of a traditional house and tea break with the family. Then return to the guest house for a quiet evening.
  • Day 3 >Tu Le – La Pan Tan (Mu Cang Chai)
  • tam-coc_smallIn the early morning, after breakfast, you will take the road to Mu Cang Chai and more precisely the commune of La pan Tan. You will take the famous "photographers' road" (the Khau Pha pass ), one of the most captivating roads in Vietnam. Mandatory photo break. The road will continue to the homestay to have lunch, check in and rest. In the afternoon, drive to Lao Chai to go to the emblematic viewpoint of Mu Cang Chai and admire the magnificent rice terraces. Then head to the village of Che Cu Nha, to admire this typical village and the splendid view. You will have dinner with a local family to discuss customs. Then return to the homestay at La Pan Tan.
  • Day 4 > La Pan Tan – Ban Bo - Si Thau Chai
  • Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise. After breakfast, the road resumes through sumptuous landscapes to the province of Lai Chau. The first stop will be at the village of Ban Bo, inhabited by the Thais. This charming riverside village is known for its bamboo watermills (in winter). Lined up along the river, they sing harmoniously. Then stop in the town of Tam Duong for a local lunch before reaching the hilltop village of Si Thau Chai where the flat hat Dao reside. You will visit the village, a traditional house and learn about local life. A local guide will then take you into the nearby jungle to learn about the use of local plants in their daily lives. You can enjoy the herbal foot bath, a specialty of the Dao. Dinner will be spent with the family. Quiet night in the village.
  • Day 5 >Si Thau Chai – Ban Tham - Lao Cai – Hanoi
  • Wake up early for an improvised breakfast from the viewpoint to enjoy the sunrise and if luck smiles on you the sea of clouds. Return to the homestay for check out and say goodbye to the hosts. Then, a leisurely hike up the mountainside will take you to the impressive Tac Tinh Waterfall . Depending on the season, swimming is more than recommended. It is very little frequented (except weekends) and it is a real pleasure to resource yourself there. Tasting of fresh fruit at the water's edge. You will then join the vehicle to go to the village of Ban Tham , inhabited by the Lu. You will have lunch with a family and visit the village. After the lunch, you will head back to Hanoi, arrival end of afternoon
